从输送介质性质选择渣浆泵的型式
    (1) 常温清水:一般的离心泵都可以使用。
    (2) 石油及石油制品:因石油、液化石油、石油制品都属易燃、易爆物质，所以要求泵的密封性好、可靠性高，一般应选择各类油泵、流程泵等，油泵的吸入、吐出口都垂直向上，较适合于炼油及石化工艺流程的需要。
    (3) 化工腐蚀性液体:对有机、无机、酸、碱类化工产品液体的输送应选用化工耐腐蚀泵，化工耐腐蚀泵一般选用各种耐腐蚀的材料制成。
    (4) 污水:污水中一般都含有一定的悬浮物或纤维物，容易堵塞泵的流道，尤其生活污水、粪便等应选用污水泵。有的污水还有一定的腐蚀性，泵的材料应采用耐腐蚀材料。
    (5) 含灰渣、渣浆、泥浆、砂粒的液体:此类液体对泵流道有极大的磨蚀性，所以泵的流道应采用耐磨蚀材料，或用耐磨蚀材料、橡胶等材料衬里的灰浆泵、渣浆泵、泥浆泵、砂泵等杂质泵。
    (6)高温液体:高温液体一般压力也较高，并有热膨胀的影响，强度要求高，密封较困难等，对泵的结构有一定的要求，例对泵体要求采用径向剖分(T>205C)， 水平中心线支承(T>177C)，需要有必要的冷却系统。当温度T> 175C时不能用铸铁材料。所以高温液体应选择热水循环泵、锅炉给水泵或热油泵等耐高温高压的泵。
四、从用途选择泵的型式
    (1)锅炉给水泵:锅炉给水一般为高温高压水的输送，所以专门设计了锅炉给水泵系列。根据输送温度压力不同，有低压、中压、次高压、高压锅炉给水泵之分，可根据不同的温度和压力选取不同类型的锅炉给水泵。
    (2) 冷凝泵:是专门用来供电厂凝汽器热水井的冷凝水之用，它要求泵的汽蚀性能较高，并常用汽蚀方法来调节泵的流量，所以专门设计了冷凝泵系列。
    (3)井泵:用于井中提水，泵的外形受到井径的限制，所以专门设计了细长型的井泵。井泵有两种:一种是将原动机置于地面的深井泵，另一种是将电机和泵连成一体置于井水中的潜水电泵。
    (4)食品泵:输送液体食品，如酒类、牛奶、果汁等，需无毒不锈及易清洗等特点，所以应选用专门输送食品之用的食品泵。
    (5)船用泵:因船上受空间的限制，所以专门设计了适合于船上安装使用的船用泵，其大多数为立式结构。

(3) chemical corrosive liquid: for the transportation of organic, inorganic, acid and alkali chemical product liquid, chemical corrosion-resistant pump shall be selected, which is generally made of various corrosion-resistant materials.

(4) sewage: the sewage generally contains certain suspended matter or fiber, which is easy to block the flow channel of the pump, especially the domestic sewage, feces and so on. Some sewage has a certain degree of corrosiveness. The pump material should be corrosion-resistant.

(5) liquid containing ash, slurry, mud and sand: this kind of liquid has great abrasiveness to the flow passage of the pump, so the flow passage of the pump shall be made of wear-resistant materials, or the slurry pump, slurry pump, mud pump, sand pump and other impurity pumps lined with wear-resistant materials, rubber and other materials.

(6) high temperature liquid: high temperature liquid generally has high pressure, and has the effect of thermal expansion, high strength requirements, difficult sealing, etc., which has certain requirements on the structure of the pump. For example, the pump body is required to adopt radial split (T > 205C), horizontal center line support (T > 177c), and necessary cooling system is required. Cast iron material cannot be used when temperature T > 175C. Therefore, hot water circulating pump, boiler feed pump or hot oil pump shall be selected for high temperature liquid.

(3) well pump: it is used to lift water in the well. The shape of the pump is limited by the well diameter, so a slim well pump is specially designed.
